Smart Blasts are the new way to reach everyone on your mailing list, optimized with the message most likely to convert. When you launch a Smart Blast, Cortex calculates the likelihood of conversion for the different stages and targets customers with the message most likely to convert. It is the perfect home for your weekly newsletter, giveaways, or promotional emails that are not critically time sensitive.
Smart Blast resets a user's Cortex interval, and will delay follow-up sends from other stages.
Who will receive Smart Blasts?
Think of Smart Blast as a more intelligent way to do a promo send or newsletter. It will reach a majority of your users, but if someone is qualified for a high conversion stage, that message takes priority. A user will receive a Smart Blast email provided they do not qualify for a high conversion stage (such as cart abandon) that day, and you do not override the send with a promo blast.
When will Smart Blast send?
Smart Blast will send on the day it's scheduled for, within the time frame specified. If you schedule a Smart Blast across more than one day it will send to most users on the first day, following up on the additional days with the users who received other messages, according to each user's best time to contact. Smart blast will only send to users on their predicted best time so a minimum send window of one day is required.
Note: Smart Blast will be turned on by default when you schedule your template, be aware when planning template changes in advance!
How does Smart Blast send across several days?
Smart Blast tries to get its sends out as quickly as possible, and most of its sends will usually send on the first day. The chart below shows the total send count and sends per hour for a Smart Blast that was sent across 2 days. You can see how after the first day, sends slow to a trickle as only a few catch-ups are needed.
How do product recs work for Smart Blast?
Product recommendations for Smart Blast will be based on the data that has been collected and analyzed for each individual’s purchase history and browsing behavior, the behavior of similar customers, the popularity of items in the catalog, and more. This allows Cortex to predict the preferences of each individual and target them with the best recommendations.

Best Practices:
- Use a 24-72 hour send window to ensure all users receive your content
- Use generic language that speaks to a large audience
- Include strong and repetitive calls to action
- Use multiple subject lines to improve open rates during the send period
- Do not use Smart Blast for critical sends like Black Friday promotions
